30 Days of Culture

“Cultural differences should not separate us from each other, but rather cultural diversity brings a collective strength that can benefit all of humanity.” Robert Alan

I am Asian American and I think Asian culture and American culture can contradict at times. I’ve written a few cultural pieces over the past year which have explored cultural influences in terms of sex, dating, and life in general. Incorporating a bit of my heritage in fictional pieces has also occurred once or twice.

Culture is important to me and I’m sure it’s important to many others even if they don’t realize it. It’s not just about an ethnic group, but can also be about your community and experiences. One of the ways in which Merriam-Webster defines culture is, “the customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a racial, religious, or social group.”

So for the month of November, every post will have something to do with culture. It’ll be interesting to see how I can tie it in with some of the memes I participate in.

  1. That’s an awesome theme. I look forward to seeing how it ties in, as well. It will be an interesting lens.

  2. You are off to a good start, now cross that bridge. I liked the quote. You are lucky. My ancestors were German and that was not carried to my generation. So I guess I am just an American.

  3. I look forward to your posts this month 🙂
