R&B Music – Life In Lyrics

I guess I’m not really into any current R&B music. R&B artists that emerged in the past decade aren’t in my radar because I feel as though the best R&B music came in 2010 or before.

I remember when I was a teenager, I listened to boy bands and R&B. Rap was never my thing as I prefer actual singing and rapping isn’t the same.

I listened to some R&B music in the 90s, but it wasn’t until the late 90s and early 00s that I really got into music. My earliest memories with R&B have to be from 2003 as all of the more old school R&B songs that I recall seem to be from that year.

I knew all the words to Rock Wit U by Ashanti and I tried to do the booty bounce in Crazy in Love by Beyoncé. Black Eyed Peas came out with Where Is The Love which I once again knew all the words to.

These were the days when Michael Jackson was still alive. While he was referred to as the King of Pop, his roots were more so R&B.

We had some amazing R&B artists in the past and these newer artists have big shoes to fill and unfortunately, I don’t feel that many of them live up to the hype.

When I think of R&B music, many times, I think of sensual songs and sex. So here’s my pick of R&B songs that describe my sex life and my views on sex.

1) Rock Wit U – Ashanti

I really like the verses of the song. The first verse says, “I think I like how your body feel next to me. Aw baby when you kissing me, aw baby when you loving me. I can’t describe what I want to do to you tonight. Aw baby when you come to me, I’ll make it so you’ll never leave” With lover, the feel of his body next to mine is like nothing else in the world. We don’t have to have sex; we can just cuddle or sit next to each other and I feel such a comfort and security. But you know when we’re together, I also want to have a lot of dirty sex.

2) I’ll Make Love To You – Boyz II Men

This is a group that I’ve actually seen live in concert. When I hear this song, it makes me envision a very sensual scene that may be in a movie. It’s definitely a baby making song and I imagine this slow sex where it’s less of a thrust and pound and more of a grind and glide. The chorus says, “I’ll make love to you Like you want me to. And I’ll hold you tight Baby all through the night. I’ll make love to you When you want me to. And I will not let go Till you tell me to.” It’s the sort of song to describe making love instead of a rough fuck.

3) Me & You – Cassie

Sir has heard a lot of my sex stories, but I have yet to have sex with him. So if that day ever comes, this will be playing in my head. “It’s me and you, now (uh uh!). I’ve been waitin’ (hey!). Think I’m gonna make that move now (gonna make a move). Baby tell me how you like it.” It makes me think of being naked and seductively crawling toward him so he can use my body.

R&B music also brings up feelings of love especially when I listen to certain slow jams. These are some of my favorite love songs.

1) I’d Rather – Luther Vandross

This song gives me all the feels. It’s about the desire to spend even the worst of the worst with the one you love than to live a good life with someone else. I love the line that say, “I’d rather have the one who holds my heart.” There’s not a single person in this world who can replace the one you love. Maybe, you’ll get a second chance at love, but it will never be the same love.

2) So Into You – Tamia

This is the song where I imagine lover holding me close to him while my eyes lock with his. “I really like What you’ve done to me. I can’t really explain it I’m so into you.” You don’t really know how or why, you’ve gotten to that point, but you know what’s happening is special. It’s how I feel when I’m with lover; I feel all the emotions of being deeply in love.

3) Midnight Train to Georgia – Gladys Knight & The Pips

Lover told me that he may move and follow his kid one day. If that day comes, I’m going to do everything in my power to go where he goes. As the song says, “I’d rather live in his world Than live without him in mine.” I can find a job anywhere, but I won’t find another him. He’s the man that I love so why would I choose to anywhere that is without him.

  1. Goodness, the memories…. “I’ll make love to you”…one of my all-time favorites from my youth 🙂

    1. I also love their song End of the Road. It’s sad, but I guess it’s what I feel with Sir. It seems like he’s going to say it’s over, but I can’t seem to let go.

      1. I hear you. Goodbyes are not easy. And, that is a great song.

  2. Some fabulous choices. I agree some of the best R&B is from the 90s and early 2000s. I haven’t found any artists coming close to what the artists of that time came up with.

    1. I can’t even stand to listen to a lot of the newer artists. I listen to the radio while commuting, but I tune out a lot of the music that I don’t care for.

  3. Great choices 🙂
I also love Boyz2Men, unfortunately never got to see them live.

    1. I didn’t think boy bands could get any better, but seeing several boy bands live when they’re all grown up, I can attest to the fact that they’ve gotten more amazing haha.
