Lust, Love, and Arousal

“There is lust and then there is love. They are related, but still very different things. To indulge in one requires little but honeyed speech and a change of clothes; to obtain the other, by contrast, a man must give up his rib. In return, his woman will undo the sin of Eve, and bring him back into Paradise.” – Anne Fortier

Merriam-Webster defines the noun, lust, as “usually intense or unbridled sexual desire” or as “an intense longing.” It further defines the verb, lust, as “to have an intense desire or need.” The word is often associated with craving or longing.

I was reading Christopher Bergland’s article entitled, A Sexually Aroused Woman’s Scent May Attract Straight Men. The article was about how women release a certain scent when they are aroused and how straight men can usually distinguish between the scent of a non-aroused and an aroused female. It was interesting to learn that this scent can increase a man’s sexual desire for the woman.

I always wondered how men could tell if a woman was sexually aroused when her clothes is still on. When it comes to men, it’s a bit easier to see their lust…sometimes, it’s because you feel that shaft poking at you and other times, it’s because you see the tent forming in his pants.

With women, I think it’s harder to tell. You can’t exactly see that a woman’s lust by looking at her crotch. A wet cunt isn’t something you’d necessarily see when a woman is wearing clothes so it was interesting to learn a bit more about how lover knows I’m aroused without me saying or doing anything.

I brought up what I read with lover last night and asked him if he could tell when I was sexually aroused. Lover told me that he could definitely tell when I was aroused, but it wasn’t because of my scent. I’m not sure how he can tell. Maybe, I’ll have to him to show me when I see him.

I can tell that lover knows because as soon as I walk in the door, he’s all over me. His hands will wander up my skirt and he’ll squeeze my ass. My hands will move up inside the back of his shirt so I can feel the skin on his back. It is a very lustful affair.

But then there’s a moment when we’re both still. His arms are wrapped around my waist and my arms are wrapped around the back of his neck. Our foreheads are touching as we just embrace. He’ll pull me in closer and my head will rest against his chest. We’re still standing up and fully clothed, but this is one of my favorite moments.

The lust seems to die down and there’s more of a security in just being close to each other. There’s silence and our breathing calms down. It’s a moment in which I feel more loved by him that I do when we’re naked in bed.

Lust and love can be similar, but they’re not the same. I think love is more tender and more sacrificial. Lust is more selfish and love is more selfless.

When lover and I first started seeing each other, it was pure lust. I wasn’t even sure how long I could date him because he wasn’t into kinks, but that was my selfishness. When I started to fall in love with him, I stopped caring about indulging in my kinks because I felt as though no one could ever replace him. I love him and he is enough for me.

Yesterday, on Twitter, I saw a poem by MrSailor about lazy mornings. It made me think about lover. And what came about from those lustful thoughts was a poem.

In shades of blue
I dream of you
Skin on skin
Until morning anew
